Since the 1972 Munich Olympics, the scene of a bloody hostage-taking incident involving Israeli athletes, chaplaincy has been one of the services offered to athletes in the Olympic villages.
Beyond physical and mental preparation, the spiritual aspect is not to be neglected for top-level athletes who face many difficulties and pressures, but also all kinds of existential and ethical questions in the practice of their sport.
International chaplains specializing in top-level sport are on hand to provide a listening ear and spiritual accompaniment for all kinds of major difficulties, such as death or serious injury, but also for all athletes’ needs, including existential questions, the meaning of life, ethical and identity issues, emotions and religious practices (weddings, baptisms, prayer times, worship services, etc.).
The French Protestant Federation (FPF) represents French Protestantism* to the public authorities. Rich in its religious diversityit offers a joint testimony through its services, thoughts and actions, it is committed to supporting athletes from different nations, ethnicities and religions, offering them moral, emotional, psychological and spiritual support throughout the competition.
