OM originated in the United States, as the result of the prayers of an elderly woman. For fifteen long years, she prayed for the students of her city, asking God to save them and send them on mission.
One day, she sends a Gospel of John to one of them,
George Verwer.
Three years later, he gave his life to the Lord in a campaign with Billy Graham in New York.
In 1957, George and two friends went to Mexico with 15,000 Gospels of John in Spanish. Their prayers for Christian bookshops, radio broadcasts and a full-time Mexican collaborator are quickly answered.
In the early 60s, George moved to Spain. It was here that the vision of an international ministry of evangelization and formation was born. The work extends to Europe, the Middle East and South Asia, with an emphasis on the presence of national leaders and collaboration with other local missions and churches.
Today, OM continues to offer opportunities for short-term missionary service, while also featuring more and more long-term committed missionaries. OM is always eager to seize new opportunities to continue proclaiming the Gospel to the world.
